Daryl's 'calculated' Banker's Cup win

DARYL Lawson wil tell you his was a 'calculated win' in the Banker's Cup competititon at County Armagh Golf Club.

His impressive nett 65 score was equalled by Thomas Murray and Francie Smyth. But on a nine-hole countabck Daryl was declared the victor.

The Danske Bank sponsored annual competition once again attracted huge numbers and despite somewhat difficult weather conditions, it produced an array of excellent results.

The Best however, was that of Daryl Lawson, with 9-handicapper Thomas Murray a worthy runner up. And worthy of note in Thomas's round are birdies at the sixth and eighth holes.

Brendan Powell was in birdie form too - at the second and 12th holes and his nett 67 secured him top prize in the 0-12 handicap category. Category runner-up Stewart Stevensonwas in a birdie class all of his own and bagged four on the day, at the fourth, ninth, 10th and 12th holes.

Francie Smyth deservedly claimed first prize in the 13-18 handicap category with his nett 65. But it could so easily have been his name in lights had he not recorded not one or two, but three double bogeys over the back nine holes. Sean Dougan, four shots adrift, was runner up in the cateogry with a nett 69.

The good doctor, GV O'Reily had the winning tonic in the 19-28 handicap category with a nett 68 and Stephen McGarvey played the poor patient for runners up prize with a nett 69.
