AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

The wet weather at the end of 2022 has created difficulties on some of the greens where normal drainage has not worked effectively. A comprehensive review of the course last year, indicated that a layer of "thatch" or organic material, has developed over time on many greens.

This layer of material has become compacted and acts as a barrier to normal drainage.

Turf management specialists recommended that the layer of "thatch" be broken up by the use of specialist machinery which drills to a depth of 18" and fills the holes with fine sand and a specialist Turf Machine has been hired for the work.

This is a painstakingly slow process and the treated green will be out of action for a number of weeks while the turf recovers.

It is the Club's intention to deal with 3 greens at this stage and to take the opportunity to deal with the remaining greens in a planned programme over a number of years which will minimise disruption to play.
