Another wet day for the ladies of County Armagh who were playing for the PGA Tankard. The competition was kindly sponsored by Alan Rankin (Club Professional). The weather reflected lower scores this week, but some determination won through, namely in Lynn Brown who was defending her title from last year, she reclaimed it by beating Paula McCrory on the back 9 with 37 points!

On Thursday past 39 ladies played in the Waltzer Competition. Conditions were tough enough as the afternoon proved quite stormy. However two groups of ladies were able to battle the elements and return good scores.
First place – Brigid McEneaney, Vera Ellingham and Bernie Gribben (76 pts)
Second place – Hilary Johnston, Lorraine Megaw and Carolyn McCall (74 pts)

Thursdays 12 Hole Stableford Competition kicked off the new season. 53 Ladies played and conditions were much improved.
Carmel Cassidy took first prize with 28 points, Sheila Hughes was second with 26 points beating Rene Calvert on the back 9, she also had 26 points and took third place. Par Lady prize went to Vera Ellingham with 21 points.

Prizes for the Spring League were awarded on Thursday night. The winning team was ‘Teresa's Trilbys'. In second place were the ‘Hardy Annuals'. Unfortunately due to the inclement weather the competition was not as well supported this year.

Great turn out for Lady Captain Irene's Coffee Evening.
Everyone enjoyed the music and the many jokes from the Bramley Ramblers.
New Year's Day saw the inauguration of Mrs Irene Lutton as Lady Captain of County Armagh Golf Club. The outgoing captain Mrs Hilary Johnston handed over the reins of office to Irene and wished her a very successful captaincy. In a packed clubhouse Irene thanked Hilary and all the ladies for their support and hoped her year would be as successful as 2013. The Lady Captain thanked all her team captains for 2014 and wished all the ladies a very successful golfing year.
A large turnout of ladies competed for the prestigious McAnerney cup, an open competition played annually with the proceeds going to Breast Cancer. The day began with a very successful coffee morning for Newry Hospice hosted by the McAnerney family.
Kathleen Mallon returned the best score on the day with thirty eight stableford points to lift the cup. Hot on her heels was Ann McDonald just a point back, and Una Cullinane's thirty six points was enough for third place. The best gross belonged to June Humphries while the front nine was Barbara Hamilton's twenty one points and Fionnuala Quinn won the back nine with twenty points.
The category winners were as follows: (A) Bernie Rice 35 points, (B) Gail Steed 35 points, (C) Carmel Cassidy 35 points, (D) Cait Murray 31 points. The Visitor's prize was won by S Rankin from Donaghadee Golf Club. Nearest the pin on the seventh hole was Barbara Hamilton while the longest drive on the seventeenth hole was achieved by Catherine Corrigan.
In a packed clubhouse on Thursday night the Lady Captain Hilary welcomed the ladies and the McAnerney family. Paula Conroy on behalf of the family thanked the ladies for their generosity to the two charities. She said they were delighted to sponsor the competition and looked forward to next year. She thanked the golf club for their support and the use of the clubhouse.

A three ball scramble was organised by the ladies branch on Thursday last. The weather conditions were very showery and not many teams completed their round in dry conditions. Nevertheless the scores were very good in the wet conditions. This competition is very generously sponsored annually by Hairlines Hairdressers on Dobbin Street.
The mother and daughter combination of Elizabeth and Alexandra Mawhinney and Gail Steed were the top team on the day and returned a fantastic score of 65.7 shots. Runner up with 66.5 was Flo McCall Joy Steenson and June Humpheries and third place went to the team of Paula McCrory Anne McDonald and Carmel Cassidy with 66.7. The Lady Captain Hilary Johnston presented the prizes to the various winners and Elizabeth on behalf of the winning team thanked Deirdre from Hairlines for her continuing sponsorship and support of the ladies branch.
