Leo is Tuesday Cup King
LEO King watched his playing partner Gary Lappin lift the Tuesday Cup a year ago at County Armagh Golf Club, and there and then set himself the target of winning the very same trophy.
This week he achieved his aim quite brilliantly with a nett 40 score lifting the coveted piece of silverware, played for over 20 weeks from April to end of August.
Club Captain Brendan Smyth was joined by Tuesday Cup sponsor and Armagh City Hotel Director, Brian McCormick, for the annual competition presentation.
The Captain, himself a winner of the Tuesday Cup in 2009, saw his son Damian almost emulate his success. But a three-shot handicap reduction during the season, was to prove significant in the final listings. However, Damien's nett 41 score secured him the runners up prize. And James O'Neill with a similar nett 41 claimed thrid prize.
It was another James - James Johnston - who produced the best gross score - 54 - of the competition which took the Top Gross prize. Thomas Murray, winner of the September Medal and Charlemont Cup finalist, had to settle for second prize on this occasion, losing out on countback to James after returning the same gross 54 score.
