AN HISTORIC CLUB WITH A MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN PARKLAND SETTING SINCE 1893

Day One - Thirty-four intrepid ladies from Co Armagh Golf Club travelled to Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf and Country Club for the 2024 Lady Captain’s outing on Sunday 21 and Monday 22 April.

For many this was their first 18 holes of the year and what a perfect day they got for it!  The weather was absolutely amazing.  The sun shone all day long on the Sunday and you would have been forgiven for thinking you were in Spain.

Everyone was very excited for a great trip as this was the first over-night outing since 2019, when incidentally the venue was also the Slieve Russell.  As ever, the championship course was presented beautifully.

Prizegiving followed a delicious 3-course meal and Lady Captain Ellen Brady extended thanks to Anne, Valerie and Flo who had helped organise the outing.

The results were:

Longest Drive @ 9th       Maggie McKee

Nearest the Pin @ 4th    Patricia Hughes

Category 0-29               Maggie McKee, beating Eileen Fitzsimons – 30 pts

Category 30-36             Bernie McBride – 31 pts

Category 37>                Maggie McClarke – 32 pts

1st                                Anne Black – 34 pts

2nd                                Ruth Black – 33 pts (prize donated by Lady Vice Captain Frances Davidson)

3rd                                Michelle Kinane – 32 pts

There were birdies for Bernie McBride at the 1st and Michelle Kinane at the 18th and twos were record by Una Cullinane at the 4th and Eileen Fitzsimons at the 7th.

Anne Black made a very heartfelt speech, thanking Lady Captain Ellen and all those who supported her in what had been a superbly well organised trip.

There were a few spot prizes for those whose golf prowess fell a little short.  Past Lady Captain Lily McMullan had donated the first of these which was won by Sheila Stinson.  Carmel Cassidy, Valerie Gordon, Helen McLaughlin, Lynne Brown, Augusta Jennings and Anne O’Reilly were the remaining lucky winners.

The Co Armagh Ladies know how to enjoy themselves and this trip was no exception, they danced the night away to the live music and when it concluded held a little sing-song of their own.

Day Two

Following a leisurely breakfast, twenty-nine ladies took to the fairway again.

The results were:

Longest Drive @ 17th     Michelle Kinane

Nearest the Pin @ 4th    Siobhan Donnelly

1st                                Flo McCall – 39 pts

2nd                                Emma Garrigan – 36 pts

3rd                                Teresa McVeigh – 34 pts

The 9-hole competition was won by Carmel Cassidy.

Whilst everyone played their own card during the round they were also playing for a secret team and the team winners were:

1st        Flo McCall, Sheila Hughes and Jacqueline Kelly

2nd        Patricia Hughes, Teresa McVeigh and Bernie McBride

3rd        Maggie McKee, Una Cullinane and Eileen Fitzsimons

There were spot prizes for Geraldine Rafferty, Helen McLaughlin, Anne Mone, Lorraine Megaw and Maggie Clarke.

A thoroughly enjoyable outing … perhaps if we are lucky it won’t be the last this year 😉!
